Atlanta – December 7, 2009 – The Pope High School “Greyhounds” of Marietta, Ga. are bringing holiday cheer to more than 100 underprivileged children, including those from Brumby Elementary School and Clarksdale Elementary School that experienced significant losses from recent flooding, through Pope High School’s “Shop with a Greyhound” program. The program was established in 2008 to help underprivileged elementary students in East Cobb County ring in the season with a pre-holiday shopping spree. The 2009 event will take place on Saturday, December 12 from 3-5 p.m.

 

The children will each receive a $100 gift card to The Avenue East Cobb for use at its more than 50 national retailers, local boutiques and specialty restaurants and will team up with Pope High School students to shop. The gift cards are courtesy of The Avenue and the surrounding community, where students worked to raise money for the program. More than 15 retailers at The Avenue will be providing special discounts for “Shop with a Greyhound” participants.

 

“The ‘Shop with a Greyhound’ program has seen substantial growth over the past year, thanks to the passion and dedication of our students,” said Rick Beaulieu, principal at Pope High School. “The economy has made this year a particularly difficult one for many families, and we’re grateful to be able to make a difference by bringing holiday cheer to those in our community.”
